This post signifies that I am too lazy to come up of a topic. I have avoided tags as much as possible, but today I have no other choice.
5 quotes from the books I have read..
1. "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss."
-- The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
2. My doctor says that I have a malformed public-duty gland and a natural deficiency in moral fibre and that I am therefore excused from saving universes.
--Life, The Universe and Everything
3. In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.
-- Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
4. The Earth is round.
-- 3rd Standard Geography Text Book
5. 1 calorie is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of water by 1 degree centrigrade.
-- 9th Standard Physics text book
What? 5 Books I have read... nobody mentioned that it has to be specifically novels.

17 humans were mesmerized and left their thoughts:

...
Grrr... X-(
.. :-( and I remember how much I had to plead to make u do a tag :'(
May I have the privilege to know who tagged u here?
err...
facebook?
I dunno..I just saw some notification..so and so person has picked 5 fav quotes etc...
I thought, fine..this could be used as a tag and..thats it.
No one "tagged" me as such.
You know I hate doing tags...they are so boring. But I was running out of time and was still too dopey..high on the thoughts of my girl.
aha! lame ..u remember physics n Geo! Tch tch!
n hey..do u read?Have you read "The FountainHead" by Ayn Rand? ....ur template makes me think that ur like howard Roark in that story!
do I read???
Am so very strongly resisting the urge not to give a sarcastic answer here.
I will settle with "yea I read"
And no, I haven't read fountainhead..haven't even heard of it actually. Not quite sure what the book is about, but if the banner reminds you of one of the characters... then I must get a copy of this book. I do hope there is an audio version.
These days I barely have time to read..so I just listen. Takes longer, but much more fun. You feel like a kid with someone telling you a story.
Hmm..err..u read n u hvnt heard of "Fountainhead" ..@ the risk of sounding condescending i cant help say "Now, that aint possible"
this is a deep book..philosophy n all..n a thick one too...Don't think u'll read it..given that u want to feel like a kid.
But i think its a good book for u to read coz of the frame of mind ur currently in.
Pavi,
My choice in books varies a lot. I rarely take interest in fiction novels. Usually I prefer the non fiction ones... the stephen hawking variety. Books on astronomy, math etc. When you hear "a brief history of time", you do still feel like a kid who is being told the secrets of the universe.
Though, occasionally I will pick up novels like Hitchhiker's guide, all the series from matthey reilly, dan brown(not the davinci code..the other ones)
Lets just say that I will read any book if it attracts my attention.
I checked for "fountainhead" online. I have seen that cover before in the bookstores. I remember unknown books by the cover. Its easier to pick this one up from the stands than to find an audio version.
thanks for the recommendation. Its not often that people's suggested books interest me. With all these sidney sheldon and JK rowling fanatics running around...
Apparently in their mind, If i don't read sidney sheldon, I am not an avid reader. Geez.
Anyway,
Do you know what mood I am in? Can you tell me...coz I can hardly figure it out myself.
ooops i assumed...abt the mood..my bad.. sorry!
lol..
no no its ok..
I get mood swings from time to time.
Your assumption at that point was quite accurate.
Nothing to apologize about.
I was just feeling...lost I guess...when I wrote that reply out to you.
Anyway,I have The Fountainhead with me. From what I read on the back cover, it seems interesting enough. Am saving it to read on the plane when I come back to india in 2 weeks.
Yes I am a Sidney Sheldon fanatic.
Stop taunting! and jeezing X-(
I never quite liked sidney sheldon... read one of the books..the best laid plans.
Very predictable for me..didn't have that much excitement.
I prefer my mysteries with a little history behind them. Go solve a code that unearths a hidden treasure, or delve with the rosetta stone, try unlocking the famous voynich manuscript...do you know I have a full copy of that manuscript.
Its beautiful. I wish I could study the original. Supposedly written in an unbreakable code. The author is unknown, the language in which he wrote the script is unknown too.
Hundreds of cryptographers have tried to decipher it..no results.
The manuscript is said to cover six key subjects and with great detail. Information which is very valuable and will only be obtained by those who deserve it, aka by those who are smart enough to decipher its secrets.
There are drawings in there which describe galaxies, some describe intricate workings of the human cells. Its a fascinating study.
Also, it has multiple types of codes.
Allegedly written by many authors, each have their own key which unlocks their respective chapters, the key is supposed to be hidden in the script itself. And, certain pages, the images contain hidden info. Consider it like a picture within a picture. A message hidden in plain sight.
And of course, the dumb idiots who finally got tired of trying to solve the puzzle declared the thing is a hoax. A bunch of random symbols.
Just like they did when they couldn't come up with a good logical reason as to how the universe began. "oh, it was like..boom. And the universe is born. End of discussion"
I am fully aware that I will never be able to solve it when thousands more skilled at cryptography than I am, have been unsuccessful.
I just try approaching it my way. With all the complex coding analysis they apply, maybe its not that hard at all. Maybe the answer is simplicity. The code could very well be a minor substitution..
Either way, its fun to look at the diagrams in that manuscript and try to wonder what they are trying to tell me.
...
...
If sidney sheldon puts that or something similar in the novels, I am interested.
and oh, btw...
when I previously taunted and jeezed about sidney sheldon... I was talking about a certain cousin of mine who keeps pestering me to read these books.
I never knew you were a fantatic..I knew you were an admirer..but not a fanatic.
Still have to read that..what was the one you recommended..game master something?? Never found it in the stores..
I have different interests.
and unless u know the name of the bok how'd u find it in the stores?
Its Master of the Game.
I'm not forcing. Read if u like.
nothing wrong with having different interests.
Some people like romance, some like fantasy mysteries, some like real mysteries, some like fact...
I have seen people here who literally dress up as anime characters and roleplay. "loonies" in my mind, but to them its perfectly normal.
The universe is full of quirks. Earth is jam packed with them.
I see sidney sheldon. I look for keywords..game..master.. I should be able to find the book. I did ask at Granth when you had recommended it..and yes, you didn't force..you recommended..so I asked...they said thats a very old book. They can get it for me if I like..
I thought I will just try crossword instead.
If you have a copy you could lend it to me.
come on..you can't tell me you aren't the least bit curious to know more about the manuscript?
You are a scientist..engineer..same thing. How can you not be interested?
Why do u even start reading te book assuming its a mystery? Start thinking that u are reading a story.
..if u want to, else leave it. I actally had my eyes popping out when u said u haven't heard of The Fountainhead!
U are neither a scientist nor an engineer. How ARE u inr\terested?
Got my point? Mixing professions and interests is very foolish.
